  THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN VOLUNTEERING FOR THE MEMORIAL TOURNAMENT presented by NATIONWIDE.

  KEY VOLUNTEER INFORMATION:

  • Volunteer Hours and Badging: Volunteers are required to serve a minimum of 8 hours.
    • Schedule 8-11 hours and receive ONE Patron Badge plus ONE course entrance gate voucher good for any one single daily admission.
    • Schedule 12 or more hours and receive one Volunteer Badge and one Patron Badge, both provide entrance to Tournament grounds Monday, May 28 through Sunday, June 3, 2018 for one person.
    • Volunteers will receive one set of meal tickets (1 sandwich, 1 snack, 1 nonalcoholic drink) on the day(s) you volunteer, unless other food is provided during your shift.
    • Parking Passes are provided for a volunteer parking lot with frequent shuttles to and from the course.
    • Volunteers will incur the cost of badge(s) for admission when the volunteer fails to meet volunteer hours requirement for issued badges.
  • Uniform Policy: All volunteers must adhere to the uniform requirements unless specifically noted under each unique committee description. The official uniform consists of the yellow Memorial Tournament polo shirt with the current Nationwide logo with the eagle, tan or khaki color long pants and closed toe shoes. Ladies may wear tan or khaki color pants, capris, shorts or skorts. Shorts and skorts must be walking length or just above the knee.

  • Junior Volunteers: Junior volunteers (ages 14-17) are welcome to serve alongside a parent or guardian in the following areas only: Bears for Children’s, Course Watering, Leader Boards and Status Boards.

  • Tournament Volunteer Participation Waiver and Release: To ensure the safety of all participants, random background checks are performed by tournament staff. Volunteers need to provide their date of birth (mm/dd/yyyy), list states of residence in the past ten years and emergency contact information in order to register as a Memorial Tournament volunteer.

 

Listed are the areas in which we need help, and a brief description of the duties and responsibilities of each:

HELP THE HOSPITAL

BEARS FOR CHILDREN'S

The Memorial's Bears for Children's program helps raise funds for the Memorial Tournament Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Nationwide Children's Hospital. In addition to raising funds by the sales of a 2018 Limited Edition Bear, volunteers seek donations during the annual "Bears for Children's Weekend" at several local retail outlets.

Age Requirements: 18 years or older or Junior Volunteers ages 14-17 are welcome to serve alongside a parent/guardian. 
Additional Requirements: You may be required to stand for long periods of time.
Uniform Policy: A t-shirt will be provided by the Tournament to be worn with tan or khaki color pants for men (no shorts) and tan or khaki color pant/short/skort for women.

HELP THE PATRON

CONCESSIONS

The ideal area for adult singles, couples, families, and larger groups of people wanting to serve together in an upbeat atmosphere. Volunteers work as a team in tented food stands on course located near the Greens as numbered (ex. Stand 5 is near Hole #5 Green), providing friendly service to patrons seeking food and drink. Shift lengths are 4 or 6 hours in length and duties include cash register operation, stock replenishment and drink dispensing. On a first come, first served basis you choose your location(s), day(s), and shift(s) and remember to wear comfortable shoes. Large groups needing assistance with scheduling should appoint a representative who should contact the Committee Chairs listed below.

Age Requirements: 21 years or older
Additional Requirements: Depending on weather/Tournament conditions, you may be asked to stay past your assigned time or work in another stand.
Uniform Policy: Tan or khaki color pants and yellow volunteer shirt for men (no shorts).Tan or khaki color pant/short/skort and yellow volunteer shirt for women is required.
Uniform Policy Exception: Men may wear khaki shorts if extreme heat is forecast.

DISABLED SERVICES

The Disabled Services Committee is in charge of shuttling patrons from several designated points on and around the golf course.

Age Requirements: 21 years or older
Additional Requirements: Must have experience driving a golf cart. A six passenger golf cart will be used. Must be comfortable driving in crowds and turning around with limited space.
Uniform Policy: Tan or khaki color pants and yellow volunteer shirt for men (no shorts).Tan or khaki color pant/short/skort and yellow volunteer shirt for women is required.
Training Requirements: Volunteers working this area will be trained.

HOSPITALITY

Volunteers greet corporate sponsors and their guests at the on-course Hospitality venues and at Hospitality Shuttle Drops. Assist with the check-in and distribution of proper credentials, as well as monitor the Hospitality areas of the Tournament.

Age Requirements: 21 years or older
Additional Requirements: Professionalism is of the utmost importance since you are the first impression for the guest experience at the Memorial Tournament. General knowledge of the Tournament is preferred since you may be required to give directions, provide information, and/or hand out items.

MEMORIAL PATRON WILL CALL AND VIP COURTESY CENTER

This is an off-course, air-conditioned location for the distribution of badges purchased immediately prior to the Tournament. During Tournament week, badges can be purchased at this location. Memorial Patron Will Call also operates a badge exchange service for corporations and Memorial Tournament patrons. The exchange fee associated with this service is donated to Nationwide Children's Hospital. 

The Memorial Patron Will Call also distributes parking passes for Muirfield residents and various credentials for VIP's, PGA members, and Media advance week and during Tournament week. Volunteers must have previous experience with resident parking pass distribution.

Age Requirements: 18 years or older
Additional Requirements: Must be cheerful and patient. Must possess keen problem solving skills. Should be willing to perform a number of tasks including balancing small accounts at the end of each day.

PATRON INFORMATION

Volunteers help distribute pairing sheets and handbooks, answer questions, direct patrons or assist at the gate. The volunteer locations include the Patron Information/Lost & Found tent, an entrance gate or on the course. 

Age Requirements: 18 years or older
Additional Requirements: You may be required to stand for long periods of time.
Uniform Policy: Tan or khaki color pants and yellow volunteer shirt for men (no shorts).Tan or khaki color pant/short/skort and yellow volunteer shirt for women is required.

SANDWICH FACTORY

Volunteers make sandwiches in the lower level of the Memorial Pavilion. A parking pass is provided for the evening shift.

Age Requirements: 18 years or older
Additional Requirements: Must be able to stand for 4 hours. May be asked to stay late to finish quota or leave early if quota is reached.
Uniform Policy: No uniform necessary. Dress comfortably. The Tournament will provide an apron and gloves.

HELP THE PRO

CREDENTIALS

Volunteers staff access points to the Clubhouse and Pavilion, and guide players, players' families, media representatives and MVGC members to the appropriate venues in this complex. Familiarity with the required access credentials, effective people and communication skills, and attention to detail are necessary.

Age Requirements: 21 years or older
Additional Requirements: Professionalism is of the utmost importance. The position will require extended periods of standing and you must be able to commit to at least 16 hours of work or two shifts.
Uniform Policy: Tan or khaki color pants and yellow volunteer shirt for men (no shorts).Tan or khaki color pant/short/skort and yellow volunteer shirt for women is required.

COURTESY CARS/TRANSPORTATION

Courtesy Cars volunteer drives cars and vans for golfers and Tournament officials during Tournament week. Transportation volunteers move cars before and after the Tournament.

Age Requirements: 25 years old minimum to drive a Tournament vehicle.
Additional Requirements: Must have a good driving record and valid driver's license. Upon completing the application, volunteer must provide a copy of his/her driver's license. Your driving record will be checked through the Bureau of Motor Vehicles.
Uniform Policy: Tan or khaki color pants and yellow volunteer shirt for men (no shorts).Tan or khaki color pant/short/skort and yellow volunteer shirt for women is required.
Uniform Policy Exception: Transportation volunteers are not required to wear a uniform.

CUB CARE

Volunteers provide child care for children of players during Tournament play at an off-course location.

Age Requirements: 18 years or older
Additional Requirements: Will be required to have a background check per PGA policy and provide a photo ID. Consider physical demands - bending, kneeling and lifting.
Uniform Policy: A t-shirt will be provided by the Tournament to be worn with tan or khaki color pants for men (no shorts) and tan or khaki color pant/short/skort for women.

MARSHAL

Volunteers help with crowd control, keeps distractions to a minimum, locate and protect errant golf balls and assist in spectator's safety. 

Age Requirements: 21 years or older
Additional Requirements: All Marshals must volunteer for all four Tournament days, Thursday - Sunday, and a minimum of one extra day, either Tuesday or Wednesday. If you are able to work for the week, it would be much appreciated. 
Uniform Policy: All Marshals are required to wear the white Memorial Tournament polo shirt. Both men and women must wear khaki (tan) pants. 
Training Requirements: Volunteers new to working this area will be trained.

MOBILE DEVICE COURTESY COMMITTEE

The Mobile Device Courtesy Committee (MDCC) volunteer will walk with the "marquee-groups" during the Tournament rounds to monitor appropriate use of cell phones and cameras. We ask that the volunteer commits to volunteering 2, 3 or all 4 rounds. The volunteer must have the ability to walk 18 holes each day. The length of shift may vary due to weather therefore, the shift runs from "beginning of play to end of play" according to the group you are assigned. 

Age Requirements: 21 years or older
Additional Requirements: Must be able to walk 18 holes of golf at a rapid pace and commit to at least 2 days of volunteering.

HELP THE GAME

LEADER BOARDS

Volunteers post scores of the leading players on boards located both on and off the course. Most shifts are 8-12 hours, depending on the day. The shift times are an approximation. Please select your preference for working the front or back nine. Requests for specific holes are considered on a first come, first serve basis. Hole requests are not guaranteed.

Age Requirements: 18 years or older or Junior Volunteers ages 14-17 are welcome to serve alongside a parent/guardian.
Additional Requirements: Must be able to stand on elevated platforms. Must stay at assigned hole until all groups have finished that hole or are dismissed by committee chairs. 
Uniform Policy: Tan or khaki color pants and yellow volunteer shirt for men (no shorts). Tan or khaki color pant/short/skort and yellow volunteer shirt for women is required. 
Training Requirements: Volunteers working this area will be trained.

SCORING & DATA CONTROL

Volunteers are stationed along each green and/or fairway in order to plot players' shots on a grid as well as use a laser to record coordinates. All shifts run from beginning of play until end of play each day. Round 1 & 2 shifts (Thursday and Friday) are approximately 12 hours in length. Round 3 & 4 shifts (Saturday and Sunday) are approximately 9 hours long in length. 

Age Requirements: 18 years or older
Additional Requirements: Must have a strong knowledge of golf. Be able to stand for long periods of time. Must have good visual and map plotting skills.
Uniform Policy: Tan or khaki color pants and yellow volunteer shirt for men (no shorts). Tan or khaki color pant/short/skort and yellow volunteer shirt for women is required.
Training Requirements:
 Volunteers new to working this area must attend the training session on the Wednesday of Tournament week.

PLAYER EVACUATION 

Volunteers will provide player evacuation support during the Pro-Am and Tournament play and will be stationed near a Safehouse on the course. Volunteers will be given a Tournament headset to follow for adverse weather affecting Tournament play. In the event that play is suspended, the volunteer will report to their Emergency Evacuation van (previously positioned at each Safehouse) and be prepared to drive the Player/Caddies/Tournament Officials to the Clubhouse. If it is decided that players should report to the Clubhouse, volunteers will drive the Players/Caddies/Tournament Officials and will remain with their vans at the Clubhouse during the suspension of play. If it is determined that play will resume, volunteers will be responsible for taking the Players/Caddies from the Clubhouse back to their position on the course. All shifts run from beginning of play until end of play.

Age Requirements: 25 years or older 
Additional Requirements: Must have a good driving record, valid driver's license and provide a copy of driver's license. Your driving record will be checked through the Bureau of Motor Vehicles.

Training Requirements:
 Volunteers working this area are required to attend training prior to Tournament week. Training dates are yet to be set.

STATUS BOARDS/PRESS ROOM

Status Board volunteers post scores of approaching players at each hole. Shifts are 6 -12 hours. Requests are carefully considered, but not guaranteed. Press Room volunteers post scores for each golfer in the Media Center. Shifts are 6 hours.

Age Requirements: 18 years or older or Junior Volunteers ages 14-17 are welcome to serve alongside a parent/guardian.
Additional Requirements: Status Board volunteers must be able to stand on elevated platform. Press Room volunteers must be able to stand/walk a majority of the shift and be able to ascend steps multiple times.

HELP THE TOURNAMENT

COURSE WATERING

Course watering will provide the Memorial Tournament additional support early morning and late afternoon. Responsibilities include: watering flowers/plants in various areas of the course and reporting back to Tournament staff on condition and proposed changes to the watering schedule. Great for anyone with a green thumb!

Age Requirements: 18 years or older or Junior Volunteers ages 14-17 are welcome to serve alongside a parent/guardian. 
Additional Requirements: Golf course knowledge preferred. Must be able to drive a golf cart.

SUPPLY DISTRIBUTION

The Supply Distribution responsibilities include but are not limited to: distribution of mail/packages, pairing sheets, magazines and spectator handbooks, ice/water to tee boxes, soft drink distribution to Clubhouse locations, and prohibited items collection. Perfect for young, strong active volunteers.

VOLUNTEER FLOATER

Volunteers report to the Volunteer Center prior to their shift to get an on-course volunteer assignment. Volunteers will need to be flexible with position or assignment given. The assignment may be to volunteer in a vacant position or help with a special assignment. Training will be given with each assignment.
