“Astellas and Kevin Chappell Chip In At the Memorial Tournament presented by Nationwide”

As PGA TOUR players practice their pitching in preparation for this week’s Memorial Tournament presented by Nationwide, PGA TOUR and Web.com Tour champion Kevin Chappell will be pitching in – literally.  On Tuesday, Chappell will be joining volunteers in making some of the thousands of sandwiches that will be served to patrons during Tournament week at Muirfield Village Golf Club in Dublin, OH.

Chappell, who serves as a Player Ambassador for Astellas, will be participating on behalf of the PGA TOUR’s Volunteer Appreciation Program sponsored by Myrbetriq ® (mirabegron) – an initiative dedicated to recognizing and rewarding the talents, passion and commitment of the more than 100,000 tournament volunteers who annually devote countless hours helping to orchestrate more than 120 tournaments on the PGA TOUR, Web.com Tour and PGA TOUR Champions. The program successfully raises funds for charity, with more than $2.14 billion realized to date. At the Memorial, nearly 3,000 volunteers will be serving in 40 plus committees, such as: concessions; courtesy cars/transportation: credentials; cub care; disabled services; hospitality; leader boards; mobile device courtesy committee; patron information; sandwich factory; scoring & data control; status boards; supply distribution; marshals; and in other key capacities to ensure every facet of the Tournament operates flawlessly.

These vital efforts enable the Memorial to raise funds for central Ohio charities, with more than $2.2 million raised in 2017 including a record-setting $1,875,000 for Nationwide Children’s Hospital through an alliance with the Nicklaus Children’s Health Care Foundation. Since the Tournament’s inception in 1976, the Memorial has exceeded $29 million in charitable donations.

Chappell and other TOUR players will be helping to inspire, motivate and personally thank volunteers for their efforts throughout Tournament week, as part of a week-long series of volunteer appreciation activities through PGA TOUR’s Volunteer Appreciation Program supported by Myrbetriq ® (mirabegron). The Memorial will also be among five tournaments in 2018 to pilot the TOUR’s new “I Volunteer Because” campaign, an initiative designed to facilitate opportunities for tournament volunteers to share their unique stories about why they volunteer. On May 25th, a Sharing Station was set up in the Golden Bear Club for the Memorial’s Volunteer Appreciation Party where volunteers were invited to express why they volunteer on large white boards, with photos and videos of their sentiments shared on social media platforms including Twitter, using the hashtag #IVolunteerBecause.

“We are indebted to our dedicated team of volunteers, including members of the Nationwide Children’s Hospital Committee and more than 2,000 Nationwide Children’s volunteers,” said Memorial Tournament Executive Director Dan Sullivan. “Their efforts are critical in making the Memorial one of the top stops on the PGA TOUR, as well as one of its most charitable. I’d also like to express our gratitude to Astellas and Kevin Chappell for helping us show our amazing volunteers how much their hard work and passion are appreciated.”
